The Historical Dances of Isadora Duncan:
“A Revolution in Aesthetics”

This EPK (Electronic Press Kit) contains selected articles and flyers, and quotations from critical praise of my historical performance on the life and art of California’s Native Daughter, Isadora Duncan, the creator of modern dance.

Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) was an internationally iconic figure, a champion of women’s rights, an leading light in advocacy for their liberation. Regular in stature, a lone figure on-stage, she was a towering presence, filling major European opera houses to capacity and influencing the likes of Sergei Diaghilev of the Russian Ballet and the sculptor, Auguste Rodin, who considered her to be one of his greatest inspirations and that she was “Perhaps the greatest woman the world has ever known.” She utterly transformed the world of dance.

PRESENTATION

I am a solo dancer interpreting the original choreography of Isadora Duncan’s legacy, which can only be authentically learned, as I have, in direct succession from Duncan herself. I introduce her to the audience with a brief narrative on her life and her many contributions, and then proceed to illustrate them with movement.

The dances are lively, most not longer than four minutes, keeping the program moving at a steady pace. The program will include waltzes from Brahms suite, opus 39, called “The Many Faces of Love”, Tchaikovsky’s “March Slav”, (a dramatic dance) and a variety of dances using music by Schubert, Chopin and Gluck. Isadora’s choreography, reflecting on her stunning choice of classical music, expresses a potpourri of styles, ranging from lyrical to dramatic to revolutionary dances. Many of the dances interpret the stories of the Greek Myths. Costumes are designed of flowing silks, representative of classical Greek dress.

A guest artist will read selections of short poems from the Orphic hymns or quotes by famous artists who saw Isadora dance.

The Legacy of Isadora is a program culturally enriching and entertaining. It delivers a rare opportunity to witness the vitality and force that made Duncan world famous and has the ability to transport the audience to a time when expression was the “sensation.” All ages will experience the enchantment of the art of Isadora Duncan.

The length of the presentation can range from one to two hours with questions gracefully answered at the end. I provide a sound system and invite all to view art and books on Isadora from my personal collection.
